In 2013-2014, I self-funded a year-long backpacking trip through 50+ countries, using it as a vehicle to refine my HDR photography skills. Inspired by years of hosting Couchsurfers in Melbourne after relocating from country Victoria, I set out to document the world’s lesser-known corners, sharing a daily photo, GPS location, and journal entry for 365 days. This project, published on a website I built, gained a significant social media following, led to writing and photography work for Atlas Obscura, and culminated in my first successful exhibition. It also propelled me into professional photography, with multiple competition wins funding further artistic explorations and international travels including my next major project in Iceland.
